What are telegraphic transfers?
A telegraphic transfer is the electronic transfer of money from Westpac to an overseas bank.
Features of a telegraphic transfer
funds are usually available within 1-3 working days; no waiting for funds to clear*
funds go to the overseas bank so they can’t go missing
sent funds are traceable
money is electronically transferred directly to the recipient’s bank account.
*For some countries, such as India and Pakistan the receiving bank may issue and post a bank cheque to effect payment to the recipient account. In these cases, it is likely to be more than 3 working days and could be as long as three weeks before the funds are available.
We recommend that you check with the beneficiary first as it may be quicker to post a bank draft directly to them.
