| To help 2000 New Zealanders with a disability get involved in sport and active leisure by the end of 2012, in partnership with the Halberg Trust. |
| From 1 October 2012 to September 2011, we've helped 2,227 people with a disability participate in a sporting event. |
One in five New Zealanders has a physical or intellectual disability of some sort |
People with disabilities are often excluded from everyday activities such as joining in simple sports and leisure activities |
Exclusion from everyday activities can lead to isolation, stress on the individual, immediate family and the whole community. |
| We’ve supported the Halberg Trust as the principal sponsor since 2007. The Halberg Trust was established in 1963 by legendary New Zealand athlete Sir Murray Halberg, to ensure people with a disability have the chance to be more active, more often. We work with the Trust to |
provide a scholarship for an emerging sports talent |
host a series of nationwide community afternoon teas celebrating Sports Activity Grant presentations |
manage a community programme enabling staff to use their volunteer day to help people with a disability, participate in sports and leisure events. |
all Westpac staff who volunteer to support a Halberg event, attend their No Exceptions Training, to learn how to work with people with disabilities. |
