Situated 30 minutes from Dunedin, the Westpac Aquarium provides an introduction to the diverse marine life of New Zealand’s Southern Ocean.
Visitors can get a hands-on experience with touch tanks and learn about the area’s marine history. Live displays introduce some of New Zealand’s native Southern Ocean species.
Marine life on display at the centre includes seahorses, conger eels, carpet sharks, crayfish and crabs.
Research undertaken by the adjacent Portobello Marine Laboratory and the University of Otago is showcased in the Marine Studies Centre.
